About this Library
Merthyr Central Library is a Grade II listed building, built on the site of the former St David’s school. The Library was build using funds donated by the Carnegie Trust. Designed by Councillor T. Edmund Rees of the architectural firm Johnson, Richards & Rees, the library is a significant example of the "Arts and Crafts Modern" style. Officially opened in 1936, it represents a blend of traditional craftsmanship with modernist influences, reflecting both the cultural aspirations and architectural trends of the time.
